Carnegie Mellon
University
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA

In partnership with Carnegie Mellon University’s Information Networking
Institute (INI), AIT offers a Master of Science in Information Networking
(MSIN), which is now a paragon for international education within Carnegie
Mellon and around the world. INI and AIT have each invested significant
resources to create the Athens MSIN program, which combines local and
distance education to train students in cutting edge technologies. The INI
also offers executive education courses for chief information officers on
its Athens campus.
In the summer of 2002, 23 students graduated from the MSIN program. In 2003,
30 new students joined the program from India, Bulgaria, Romania, Lebanon,
the Ukraine, the United States, and Greece. The class of 2005 included 26
students who represented seven countries and the same breadth in diversity
as their predecessors. The MSIN class of 2006 was represented by an even
greater diversity of countries.
The degree is awarded to the graduates of the MSIN in Athens directly from
the CMU-INI. The MSIN degree from Carnegie Mellon is fully accredited by the
Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The graduating
ceremony takes place in Athens and is organized by the CMU-INI following the
traditions of Pittsburgh’s ceremony.

Athens Executive Education
(http://www.cylab.cmu.edu/)
Under the designation Carnegie Mellon CyLab Athens, Carnegie Mellon and AIT
have recently expanded their collaboration into executive education and
research.
Carnegie Mellon CyLab Athens will offer a new Chief Information Officer
executive program, “Leading and Building a Secure Enterprise,” at AIT. This
four-day training program is designed to teach participants the leadership,
management, and analytical skills critical for reducing organizational risk
and improving information security across an enterprise. The program will
take place in Athens with faculty from both Carnegie Mellon CyLab and AIT.
Topics to be covered include: An Overview of the Future Challenges to
Information Security; Risk Management and Business Continuity Planning; Law,
Investigation, Ethics and Privacy; and Key Technologies and Emerging Trends
Aalborg University,
Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTIF),
Aalborg, Denmark
(http://ctif.aau.dk/)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Athens Information Technology
(AIT) and Aalborg University, Denmark, was signed on June 13, 2007, at AIT’s
premises by AIT’s Dean Prof. Christos Halkias; AIT’s Executive Director Mr.
Petros Kokkalis; and the Director of the CTiF Prof. Ramjee Prasad. The MoU
concerns the development of collaborative research and educational
initiatives between AIT and the Center for TeleInFrastruktur (CTiF), which
operates within Aalborg University.
These common initiatives will target leading edge research, high quality
postgraduate education, as well as development of doctoral theses in the
fields of information technology and telecommunications and will include the
exchange of students, research and faculty, the delivery of common courses,
as well as the collaboration in research projects. Selected AIT graduates
will be given the opportunity to join CTIF either as researchers or PhD
students of Aalborg University. Longer term plans of the AIT-Aalborg
collaboration include the development of common educational programs.
Aalborg University is among the most prominent universities worldwide in the
areas of telecommunications and information technology and the CTiF
constitutes one of the most recognized research centers in wireless
communications. The CTiF plays a leading role in large scale research
projects, as well as direct research collaborations with major industrial
players in wireless communications (including SIEMENS, NOKIA, ERICSSON,
SAMSUNG, SONY). The CTiF has already expanded its research collaborations to
other countries, the most recent examples being in Italy (University of
Rome) and India.
John F. Kennedy School of
Government, Harvard University, Boston , Massachussetts, USA
(http://www.ksg.harvard.edu/)
A series of executive programs, developed by Harvard’s Kennedy School of
Government and co-organized by the Kokkalis Foundation, address the themes
of negotiation, conflict management skills, leadership, strategic and
technology management, the growing need to deepen and consolidate political
and economic reforms, reinventing traditional approaches to governance and
promotion of communication in Southeast Europe and Eastern Mediterranean.
Senior executives, senior government representatives, elected officials,
policymakers, leaders in the private sector and their non-profit/NGO sector
counterparts benefit from these programs. Upon completion, participants are
awarded a certificate from Harvard University and become members of the
Kokkalis Leadership Network (KLN) and the alumni association of the Kokkalis
Program at Harvard University. KLN alumni are continually updated on and
informed of Kennedy School of Government and Kokkalis Program initiatives
such as educational refreshers, symposia and special events.
